Nuix customers have used our software in innovative ways to achieve amazing outcomes

With the power of Nuix in your hands, the only limit is your imagination. Here are some recent examples of how Nuix customers have solved business problems using our solutions.

eDiscovery

Continuous discovery

A major financial institution could not extract data from email and document management systems fast enough to satisfy its eDiscovery needs.
Solution
The bank engaged Nuix technology to provide in-house continuous discovery against multiple terabytes of data.
Results
Nuix technology ensured the bank could deliver a complete and timely response to discovery requests as they arose.

Discovery across multiple data sources

A large government department was in litigation with a major contractor for non-performance of contract. The department needed to produce all contractual documents and communications between executives and the contractor over the past six years.
Solution
The department used Nuix technology to collect, process and review email data from servers and senior executives’ hard drives.
Results
This gave the department a complete record of its communications with the contractor. Having indexed all this data, the department could quickly conduct searches and produce relevant documents as the case goes through multiple rounds of discovery.

Discovery in multiple languages across many sources

A global corporation undergoing litigation needed to conduct thousands of collections from hundreds of servers. The software tool it engaged for the task couldn’t cope with the volume of data.
Solution
The company reprocessed all the case data using Nuix technology.
Results
Nuix technology comfortably handled the scale of data. The company could then add data from offices in Latin America, Europe and Asia, in multiple languages. Reviewers in China and Japan could interact with the data using the Nuix interface in their local language. The company can now continually add relevant data as the case proceeds.

Information governance

Archive remediation at a massive scale

A multinational financial institution was looking to extract, manage and migrate more than 330 terabytes of data stored in EMC EmailXtender and Symantec Enterprise Vault archives. These archives contained email messages which the bank had to retain due to ongoing legal action.
Solution
Using Nuix technology, the company processed more than 3 billion email messages within weeks.
Results
The company found almost half the data was duplicated and a large additional part of the data was had no legal risk or business value. Overall, more than two-thirds could be deleted before moving the remainder to a more cost-effective new archive platform.  By retiring its old email archives and minimizing the volume of data stored in the new archive, the bank expects to save millions of dollars in storage hardware, software and management costs.

Locating and managing rogue contracts

A regional investment bank had invested in a contract management system to help it maintain profitability, but realized they had not captured a large proportion of current contracts in this system.
Solution
Using Nuix’s contract management solution, the bank searched for unmanaged contracts stored in five terabytes of email archives and 1 terabyte of file shares.
Results
Nuix’s contract management software identified contracts stored in these repositories, extracted key terms and transferred them to the contract management system. This gave the bank much greater clarity into its contractual obligations. It can now conduct regular updates to ensure the system captures any new contracts its staff enter into.

A proactive response to regulatory oversight

A global financial services company was looking to improve the way it responded to regulatory requests. Its industry was facing an environment of increased regulatory oversight and it was seeking a more proactive approach.
Solution
The company used Nuix technology to process eight terabytes of archived data stored in Symantec Enterprise Vault. It runs regular updates to ensure the Nuix index covers the most recent communications.
Results
The company can now conduct automated searches for signs on non-compliant activity, and escalate these for further investigation. With a full index of its communications, the company can respond to information requests within minutes and have all the facts at its disposal in a few hours.

Investigation

Multiple investigators

A federal police agency needed to investigate cases involving large volumes of data, up to hundreds of terabytes in some instances.
Solution
The agency standardized on Nuix technology for all its electronic investigations.
Results
The agency greatly improved productivity by enabling teams of investigators and subject matter experts to collaborate on solving cases in near real time.

Many data sources at once

As part of a major fraud investigation, a government agency had seized about 40 devices including desktop and laptop computers and smartphones. Investigating each device sequentially would have made it impossible to locate links between different custodians and purchases.
Solution
The agency ingested all available data into a single storage location, then used Nuix software to index and cross-reference it.
Results
The Nuix tools helped a single investigator quickly bring the most valuable evidence to the surface, enabling the agency to initiate charges. By searching for similar documents, the investigator discovered a series of related companies conducting other fraudulent transactions, which led to further charges.

More forensic than forensic tools

A corporate regulator believed a bank director had conducted insider trading using his BlackBerry, but could not prove this using standard forensic tools.
Solution
Using Nuix software, the regulator examined the complete metadata of the bank’s BlackBerry Enterprise Server.
Results
Nuix identified email messages the director sent to his stockbroker requesting the illegal trades, which enabled the regulator to quickly prove its case and bring successful charges.

Business functions, especially around mergers and acquisitions, rely on knowing exactly what is happening with contracts in order to assess risk. Unfortunately, too many businesses lack cohesion between different business divisions and management, leaving gaping holes in the knowledge base around contracts.
